Irish public holidays in 2027
The 2027 calendar, worked out from the same rules as every other year — and with one date that looks like a coincidence and is not: the February holiday falls on 1 February, by the ordinary rule rather than by the exception that also names that date.
| Holiday | Date | Day | The rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| New Year’s Day | 1 January 2027 | Friday | a fixed calendar date |
| St Brigid’s Day | 1 February 2027 | Monday | the first Monday of the month, the 1st not being a Friday |
| St Patrick’s Day | 17 March 2027 | Wednesday | a fixed calendar date |
| Easter Monday | 29 March 2027 | Monday | the day after Easter Sunday |
| May Day | 3 May 2027 | Monday | the first Monday of the month |
| June bank holiday | 7 June 2027 | Monday | the first Monday of the month |
| August bank holiday | 2 August 2027 | Monday | the first Monday of the month |
| October bank holiday | 25 October 2027 | Monday | the last Monday of the month |
| Christmas Day | 25 December 2027 | Saturday | a fixed calendar date |
| St Stephen’s Day | 26 December 2027 | Sunday | a fixed calendar date |
The date that looks like the exception and is not
The February holiday in 2027 falls on 1 February 2027. That is the same date the exception in S.I. No. 50 of 2022 names — regulation 5 says that in a year where 1 February falls on a Friday, the holiday is 1 February.
But that is not why it lands there this year. In 2027, 1 February is a Monday — so the ordinary rule in regulation 4, the first Monday in February, produces the 1st all by itself. The exception is not engaged.
The distinction has no practical consequence for anyone taking the day off, and it is exactly the kind of thing that makes a calculator wrong three years later. A system that applied the exception whenever the two dates happened to coincide would produce the right answer in 2027 and the wrong one in a year where they did not — so this site’s engine checks the weekday, and its test suite has a case asserting that the override did NOT fire this year. The next year in which it genuinely does is 2030.

Easter Monday is the row that moves furthest, because Easter does. It is the only holiday in the Irish calendar tied to a computus rather than to a calendar date or a weekday ordinal, and it can land anywhere from late March to late April.
The Second Schedule names “Easter Monday” and does not define Easter, so the choice of computus is the calculator’s. This site computes Western (Gregorian) Easter, which is the date Easter Monday has in fact fallen on in the State every year. That is stated rather than assumed, in the payload, next to the rule.
Weekends
| Holiday | Date | Day |
|---|---|---|
| Christmas Day | 25 December 2027 | Saturday |
| St Stephen’s Day | 26 December 2027 | Sunday |
Two at a weekend in 2027, back to back. Neither moves to the following Monday, and the entitlement in each case is one of the four options the employer chooses between — set out here. In practice, for most employees on a Monday-to-Friday contract, this is the case where the fourth option (an additional day’s pay) or the third (an extra day of annual leave) is the one that applies.
Counting working days across these
If you are working out a notice period or a deadline that crosses a holiday, the date difference calculator takes the public holidays out of a working-day count automatically — using this same payload, so the two pages cannot disagree about which days those are.
